The Opportunity

The Manager, Global Accounts is a remote senior level field sales position in our Abbott Point of Care Division and is responsible for selling the entire line of i-STAT products to the global markets within clinical research, pharmaceutical companies, and managing alliances on veterinary sales. This would include any of the following customer types: Biopharmaceutical Companies, Specialty Pharmaceutical Companies, Contract Research Organizations (CRO) and entities engaged in equipping and supplying the above entities for the purpose of clinical research and development.

On the sales side, the role is responsible for developing new business within targeted global accounts, as well as growing & servicing an existing customer base. The strategic account development process includes identifying unmet customer needs, developing account specific strategies, creating customer commitment to utilize a POC solution, and implementing conversion (training and start up) upon close.

On the alliance management side, this position will also carry a responsibility to help manage veterinary sales and commercial relationships with i-STAT solutions.

This position reports into the Head of Global Commercial Operations, and will partner closely with Global, US and International commercial teams, for the purposes of lead generation, marketing strategy, and implementation. This position has 1 direct report.

An ideal candidate for this role will have deep commercialization experience combined with leadership experience (1st line management) who relishes the challenges of being an Entrepreneur / trailblazer (e.g. launching a rare disease product). In addition, this individual should have relevant cross functional experience such as contracting, marketing and a strong knowledge of the biopharma drug development process. S/he will be experienced in working in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, well organized, great with customers, have a demonstrated ability build relationships, and willing to work cross functionally across APOC to align resources to deliver results.

What You’ll Work On

  • Execute against and continuously refine business strategy and commercialization plan, including (but not limited to) account segmentation, value proposition / messaging, marketing & promotional strategy, tactics

  • Lead generation, selling, contract development and implementation of closed accounts

  • Drive prospecting efforts via digital channels, cold calls, B2B pitches, presences at key congresses and partnering with other APOC commercial team/Abbott divisions

  • Work to ensure optimal contract value and efficient implementations/training.

  • Manage assigned budget to maximize return on investment.

  • Deliver account management / customer care.

  • Lead without direct authority – working across division to align resources to support opportunities

  • Alliance management of vet relationship, including managing orders, demand forecast, cross-functional alignment on issues, being the interface between the external and internal stakeholders, and maintaining Quarterly Business Review calls

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or life sciences (including but not limited to biology, physiology, nutrition, and/or clinical chemistry)

  • Ability to travel 30-50%, customer visits / trade shows

  • ~10% on-site at Abbott Point of Care (APOC) Global Headquarters in Princeton, NJ

  • Commercialization Experience including Sales and/or Marketing Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Life sciences background in diagnostics; pharmaceutical experience

  • Self-motivated with high energy, a positive attitude and entrepreneurial work ethic

  • Strong problem-solving skills & analytical ability, thrives on new and unstructured challenges, intellectually curious with a growth mindset with an ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge

  • Ability to provide strategic direction, motivate and lead a diverse cross functional team (e.g. Marketing, Contracting, Finance and Sales & Service) without direct authority to develop and deliver account specific clinical trial solutions

  • Leadership and team orientation. Management experience

  • Negotiation skills, and contract/legal experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (Inc. presentation and listening skills)
